The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office has reported multiple phone scams recently.

The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office received two phone calls Friday afternoon of a male who is impersonating a sheriff’s deputy and informing citizens that he or she missed jury duty.

According to the phone reports, the caller has identified himself as either Lt. Lance Watson or Deputy Mark Bowen. CCSO does not employ anyone with either name.

The caller falsely informed citizens that a warrant has been issued for that person’s arrest because he or she missed jury duty. The suspect has told people that if he or she gives them a credit card number over the phone, the warrant will be dismissed.

This is a scam. The sheriff’s department does not conduct business in this manner. Sheriff Joe Lester said the department is concerned about these incidents. Detectives are investigating the matter.

“If you receive a call from this individual, hang up and immediately call the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office and report the incident, “Do not give this person any financial information or meet him in public, said Lester.

If you have any information, please contact The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office at (405) 701-8888.
