Widespread flooding shut down a town south of the metro.

Heavy rain in Maysville forced water out of the banks from area rivers and creeks. Floodwaters rushed through neighborhoods and into homes most of the day.

According to the Garvin County Emergency Management, about a dozen people were rescued from at least five flooded homes.

"I just hope all these families, that, you know, their homes are under water and have lost things, that you know we will all come together and help each other get through this," said Tayana Richardson, a Maysville resident.

Water also covered roadways in the downtown area and flowed up to most of the storefronts.

Electricity was out most of the day, and some of it was restored by late afternoon. Electric crews continue to work on some of those lines.

No injuries are reported. The water is starting to recede but many neighborhood roads remain underwater.  Emergency personnel advise residents to use caution and do not drive through standing water.
