Summer has officially arrived and many of us will be spending more time outdoors, most likely by the pool or going to the beach.
Summer is all about having fun in the sun, but while you do that you need to take extra care of your skin.
Tip number one: Apply a chemical sunscreen 15 to 20 minutes before going outside. This way, the sunscreen has enough time to work through the top layer of the skin.
Also a common misconception is the higher the SP, the better the protection. Dermatologists say that's not exactly the case.
"UVA is a greater threat and there is no grading for that as of yet. So, do we go from a 15 to 30 and double our sun protection? That's not necessarily true. We only gain a couple of percent of protection going from 15 to 30 or even 50," said Dr. Harry Sharata, Dermatologist.
Finally, you can get a sunburn on a cloudy day, so be sure and lather up.
