Police are trying to figure out who pulled the trigger in an overnight shooting in NW OKC that left 23-year-old Alex Benitez dead.
Investigators said Benitez was found in a breezeway at the Putnam Green Apartments at 7514 Knight Lake Dr., around 1 a.m. Thursday, July 7.

“It was horrifying,” said Phillip Payne who thought he heard fireworks and rushed outside to find Benitez a few feet from his apartment.
“I was telling him, ‘Hold on, don’t go, don’t go’,” said Payne.
Payne believes Benitez passed away right before police arrived. He told News 9 he spotted two people running from the scene. One was wearing a white shirt with dark colored sleeves and the other had a black shirt.
As of Thursday evening, police had not released a more detailed suspect description.
Neighbors said Benitez was wearing a work uniform and it appeared he had just returned home.
“His food was right there on side, so he was basically trying to get in his house,” said a neighbor named Frank, who would not give his last name.
