Family members of one of the fallen Dallas police officers said they hope that something positive will come out of last week's tragedy.
Fernando Zamarripa said he always thought highly of his nephew Patrick.
“He’s always my hero, I told him that before, you’re my hero,” said Fernando Zamarripa.
The 32-year-old Dallas police officer and U.S. Navy veteran was one of five law enforcement officers killed in Thursday's downtown Black Lives Matter protest.
Patrick Zamarripa’s father Ricky said he knew something was wrong when Patrick Zamarripa didn’t respond to texts or calls.
His family said they are torn after the loss but they hope something positive comes from the tragedy.
“The violence has got to stop, we have to live together,” said Fernando Zamarripa.
And through unity, he hopes to open a dialogue for change.
Patrick Zamarripa leaves behind a wife and young daughter.
