Firefighters responded to a house fire shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday in northwest Oklahoma City.

A small fire started on the back porch of a home on N.W. 24th Place off of N. Dittmer Road. Firefighters say the flames extended into the attic, but they were able to gain control quickly.

Two residents were inside the house. One man burnt his hands trying to put out the flames. His injuries are minor and he did not seek treatment.

Upon initial investigation, firefighters believe it was caused by abandoned smoking material. There is approximately $5,000 worth of damage.
