Russell Westbrook cited his growing affection for Oklahoma City as a key reason why he decided to stay with the Thunder.
Westbrook is also a long-time volunteer at the Oklahoma County Boys and Girls Clubs. The Thunder star himself is a product of the South Central Los Angeles Boys and Girls Club.
He not only volunteers his time.
Morgan Jackson is 21-years-old and will be a senior this fall at the University of Tulsa, where she is studying Biology and Chemistry. Three years ago, she was one of ten Boys and Girls Club members locally who received college scholarships from Russell Westbrook. She said Westbrook’s generosity is why she was able to even go to college.
“I don’t know what I would have done without that scholarship that first year,” she said Thursday afternoon.
Jackson, who said she used to volunteer in the kitchen of the Oklahoma County Boys and Girls Club, said she plans to go to medical school when she graduates from Tulsa next year.
