A southwest Oklahoma City woman said her next door neighbor’s neglect for his property has gotten out of hand.

Mary Bettes said her neighbor moved to Florida at least six months ago.

She said the backyard of the property has become a breeding ground for snakes, pests, feral cats and mosquitoes, because that backyard also contains a below-ground pool that is in disrepair.

“It’s just been one thing after another,” Bettes said.

She contacted News 9 Monday after watching a feral cat and a large rat fight to the death in a driveway that divides hers and her neighbor’s property.

“When I get out on my porch, before I go out to my car, I get out and look and make sure there ain’t (sic) no rats underneath my car or anywhere else,” she said.

Oklahoma City Action Line spokeswoman Beth Crounse said records show that swimming pool was treated for mosquitoes back in June.

Bettes doesn’t believe it.

“If this house was in a nicer neighborhood on the northside, they wouldn’t have let this go this long," Bettes said.

Crounse said the man who owns property in question lives in Boynton Beach, Florida.

News 9 reached out to him Monday afternoon, and but did not hear back at the time of publication.
