It's the first day of class for students at several metro schools -- first day jitters for kids, and a blow to the pocket book for parents.

Back to school spending is up more than 30 percent from last year with some spending up to $1,600.

According to new data from the American Express Spending and Saving Tacker, parents spend an average of $505 on gadgets because their kids use tech for school.

The price of after school programs like band or sports also up this year by about $100. The survey shows parents are spending less on back to school clothing to budget for these extra expenses.

Thursday's the first day of school for Mustang, Yukon, Putnam City, Western Heights, El Reno, and Norman. So watch out for kids and buses.
