A petition seeking to legalize medical marijuana in the state of Oklahoma reached the necessary number of signatures to be placed on the ballot in November, according to a count by the Secretary of State’s office.

State Question 788 needed about 66,000 signatures in order to amend Oklahoma statutes. The Secretary of State’s office counted a total of 67,761 signatures.

Former state legislator Joe Dorman led the effort in collecting signatures across the state.

The State Supreme Court will now determine whether the number of signatures counted is sufficient to be placed on the ballot. There is now a 10-day challenge period and the attorney general will have the option to rewrite the ballot title.
