A father is looking for answers after police shoot and kill his son early Wednesday morning in SW OKC.
Around 2:40 a.m., Police responded to a call of a person who was threatening suicide near SW 22nd and Kentucky.
When officers arrive they say 29-year-old Dustin Pigeon had lighter fluid in one hand and a lighter in the other.
Officers say he was shot after he refused to drop what he was holding and tried to light himself on fire.
“One of our officers discharged his bean bag shotgun and the second officer discharged his firearm striking the suspect. He was deceased on scene,” says Capt. Bo Mathews with the OCPD.
“He went out and helped people. He just was not a mean man. He was not,” says Dustin’s father Boston Pigeon. “He was a good person,” adds the father who says his son helped at home and often gave food to neighbors in need.
The officer who pulled the trigger was involved in another fatal shooting in 2015.
Sgt. Kevin Sweeny fatally shot a suspect in February 2015 when investigators say a suspect tried to run over officers with his car.
Investigators expect to learn more from the body cameras the officers involved were wearing at the time of the shooting.
