Oklahoma Department of Transportation says it hopes to complete the most-expensive road project in state history, widening I-235, a little sooner than originally expected.

The massive project to widen Broadway Extension from 4 to 6 lanes began earlier this year. ODOT has asked motorists to take alternative routes, like I-35, I-40, and city streets, like Classen, Lincoln, and Martin Luther King, to take the burden off of I-235 construction zones.

“There’s very little room for error,” said ODOT spokesperson Lisa Shearer-Salim. “That’s why we really hope people will take heed.”

John Bling, aka "Thunderboy Wonder,” says he sometimes takes I-235 after attending Thunder basketball games. But now he utilizes other routes.

“It’s a process,” he said, shortly before he drove to watch the Thunder play Golden State. "We’re going to get through it. I’m not worried. I’m just ready for this game tonight."
