Fresh off their first win against a ranked foe, Mike Boynton and the Cowboys host Tulsa tonight looking to build some momentum heading into Big 12 play. Opening tip is set for 8 p.m.
Oklahoma State earned a signature victory for Boynton by knocking No. 19 Florida State from the ranks of the unbeaten in Sunrise, Fla., on Saturday. The Cowboys have forced at least 19 turnovers in each of the last four games, and now rank 34th nationally in defensive efficiency.
Senior forward Mitch Solomon is heating up, averaging 14.5 points and 9.5 rebounds over the past two games, both against ranked opponents. Newly eligible transfer Yankuba Sima showed promise in his first action as a Poke with five points and three boards against the Seminoles.
The Golden Hurricane is led by power forward Junior Etou, who is averaging 18.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game this season. The 6-8, 235-pound Rutgers transfer is shooting 57.5 percent from the floor and 48 percent from deep. He was a preseason All-AAC second-team honoree.
Tulsa is 1-1 against Big 12 teams this season, losing to Iowa State 80-78 and beating Kansas State 61-54.
OSU has one more non-conference opponent after Tulsa, a Friday night duel with UT-Rio Grande Valley. The Cowboys begin Big 12 play on Dec. 29 in Gallagher-Iba against No. 10 West Virginia.
