Police are investigating a homicide in southwest Oklahoma City after a woman was found dead in her home.
News 9's Aaron Brilbeck talked to neighbors in the vicinity of Southwest 22nd and McKinley Avenue, and they said the victim was shot in the head. She was found Saturday afternoon at her home in the 2200 block of South Mehl Drive.
Neighbors said they were surprised by the woman's death, and they're especially surprised that they didn't hear any commotion. She has a large pit bull, but they heard no barking -- and they heard no gun shots.
They described the woman as being in her late 50s or early 60s. Her name has not been released by authorities yet.
Aimee Gissandaner lives next door and didn't hear anything unusual.
"No. We share a wall. Right here is the dividing point, and her bedroom is where they found the body. So, I'm very surprised we didn't hear anything. It was scary," she said.
It doesn't appear as though anybody forced their way into the home. There's a security camera on the building next door.
"Whoever did it must have known the dog because that dog is very vicious. He's chased me inside my house several times," Gissandaner said.
"I hear shootings almost every night, so it's definitely not a good area to stay. I feel bad for all the other old people who are alone. She didn't have anyone to protect her, and there are a lot of older people out here who are getting assistance, and this is the only option they have -- and it's kind of sad," she added.
