Oklahoma City police are investigating an overnight shooting in the southwest part of the city that left a suspect dead.
Officers arrived on scene at a 7-11 near southwest 29th Street and Meridian around 12:53 a.m. after receiving a call a man was in the parking lot bothering patrons. Officers said the man was heard saying the store was "going to be shot up."
Officer Matthew Patten made contact with the suspect before the suspect took off. Officers said the suspect then turned and pointed the gun at Officer Patten, but have not confirmed any shots were fired.
The officer's firearm was discharged and struck the suspect.
EMSA pronounced the suspect deceased at the scene. Officer Patten has been put on paid administrative leave.
The suspect was identified as Chris Stone. Stone is described as a black male.
After the investigation, the Oklahoma County District Attorney's office will conduct a separate investigation.
