With just eight days until the runoff election, Republican candidate for governor Mick Cornett is logging more miles and talking about ways to expand business in Oklahoma.

Monday, the campaign trail took Cornett to Seminole to tour of the 165,000 square foot Blue Wave boat manufacturing plant, stopping to talk with business and civic leaders about their needs.

With the economy flourishing, the company needs more skilled workers and more housing for them.

“What we really need is a governor who understands that we need these incentives to keep the explosive growth going. We need jobs but on the other side of that we need the housing. And so, we need someone who’s going to help us with the housing issues,” said Seminole City Manager Steve Saxon.

Cornett said, “It’s in Oklahoma-based company employing Oklahomans. Working with a career tech center. There’s a lot of things working here. Just a couple missing pieces I think are keeping them from growing and employing more people. What pieces? Well, like the housing. There’s only so many people they can live close enough here and work here.”

The company also wants improved rail service to get their product to market, something Cornett says he will look into if elected.

News 9 and News On 6 will feature stories on the Stitt and Cornett campaigns leading up to the runoff election on August 28, 2018.
