A father is charged with a felony crime following a shooting involving his two young children.
It happened earlier in August at the family's home in Stroud.
Court documents reveal guns should have never been inside the home. The children's father Daniel Carroll is a convicted felon, making it illegal for him to possess any guns.
Police say it's a tragic accident that never should have happened.
911 CALLER: Her 10-year-old brother was playing with a gun, and he wasn't supposed to be able to have access to it.
On the day of the shooting, Carroll's eight year-old daughter and ten-year-old son were both playing with guns when one of them fired.
The children's mother called 911 while in route to the hospital.
911 CALLER: I got a kid with gunshot wounds.
The 10-year-old told deputies that he was aiming at a door that his sister was standing in front of.
Despite a felony conviction for Larceny of an Animal in 2000 prohibiting Carroll from possessing any firearms, a search of the home uncovered a total of 4 guns, two of them rifles.
While the weapons were secured in a gun safe, the children knew where their parents kept the key, according to investigators.
Carroll is now charged with possession of a firearm after former felony conviction.
Carroll could face up to ten years in prison.
