The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is partnering with the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office, Oklahoma City Police Department, Midwest City Police Department, and the Del City Police Department to conduct a checkpoint and saturation patrols in the county.

The checkpoint will begin at 11 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25 and last until 1 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 26. During this time, officers from the surrounding towns will be increasing patrols to be on the lookout for impaired drivers, according to authorities.

"There is absolutely no reason for impaired driving collisions to happen. If you are drinking, have a plan to get home safe," said officials in a released statement.

In 2017, 656 people were killed in crashes in Oklahoma; almost half of those, 324, were killed in drug/alcohol-related crashes. This is up from 43% killed in drug/alcohol-related crashes in 2016 in Oklahoma.
