Expect to see bigger differences in the two candidates running for governor in November.

On Tuesday, Tulsa businessman Kevin Stitt secured the Republican nomination with a win over former OKC mayor Mick Cornett.

“As your next governor, my promise to you is that I’m always going to be focused on strengthening all Oklahoma families for the next generation and not the next election,” Stitt told reporters Tuesday night following his victory.

Meanwhile, Stitt’s opponent, former longtime Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson, says he looks forward to having a strong debate on the issues.

“We still have a huge gap in the educational product that we’re able to offer the children in the state of Oklahoma,” said Drew Edmondson, who has made Education a clear focus of his campaign.

News 9 political analyst Scott Mitchell believes Stitt’s victory helps Edmondson’s chances in November.

I think this is a guy who wrapped himself in Donald Trump and every day that goes by, those numbers are going to go down,” said Mitchell.

Meanwhile, SoonerPoll.com’s Bill Shapard says Stitt’s candidacy will be problematic for Edmondson.

“I think what you are going to see from Kevin Stitt is to paint Drew Edmondson as the insider, because he’s (Stitt) is the ultimate outsider, having never ran for public office,” said Shapard, who predicts a close race in November.
