A metro burglar tried to steal evidence, but may have given himself away because of it.

The suspect broke into a house on Elmwood Avenue Monday and took the security camera with him.

However, that camera was already sending footage to an online database, and when taking the camera off the wall, the burglar provided a very clear image of his face.

“If you recognize this guy, let us know, let the police department know. Let's see if we can get him,” Jon Nolen of HomeVestors America said.

Nolen is in the middle of remodeling the house.

It was burglarized twice in August.

The first time, no footage was captured, but the thief took tools.

“It was materials. Light fixtures. I don't remember what else,” Nolen said.

After the first burglary, Nolen installed the camera.

The second burglary happened at the end of August, with the suspect coming through the window.

Nolen says the suspect took some face plates, tools and the thermostat.

Thanks to the clear security footage, police think someone might be able to identify the suspect.

“He had to look right into it in order to steal it so you get an excellent look at the thief in this case. Anyone with information on who this person is we want to hear from them through Crime Stoppers,” Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Gary Knight said.

Nolen has installed an additional security system in the home to keep this from happening again.

“It hurts everybody. It hurts the contractors, hurts us, all around,” Nolen said.
