The Oklahoma State Fair kicks off Thursday morning, and hundreds of people are hard at work setting up. State Officials are also taking measures to make sure visitors are safe on every single ride.

“The state of Oklahoma is really unique in amusement ride safety. We are actually a model for the rest of the country,” said State Labor Commissioner Melissa Houston.

Amusement ride inspection are not regulated at the federal level. It’s done state by state, and in some instances, county by county. But Oklahoma, has a statewide program.

Officials say that Oklahoma law is unique in that it requires three sets of inspections that take place on amusement park rides.

Houston also asks fair attendees to do their part by following all safety requirements.

“Usually there will be something that says that you must be this high to ride. It is very important for parents to follow that,” said Houston.

Houston says that the safety of the ride depends on all fair-goers to obey the ride restrictions.
