The Canadian County Sheriff's Office has arrested a suspect in the embezzlement of more than $60,000 from a local company.
Chazlie Beth Brey, 33, from Norman, was arrested on two felony counts of embezzlement and one felony count of pattern of criminal offenses.
According to authorities, Caliber Steel and Rohlman Welding contacted investigators to look into a possible case of embezzlement. Deputies said Brey embezzled $36,017.16 through 43 false checks, and withdrew and additional $25,746.35 in 65 fraudulent ATM withdrawals. In total, Brey embezzled $61,763.51 from Caliber Steel & Rohlman Welding between January of 2017 and February of 2018.
“I’m extremely proud of this arrest, because white collar criminal offenses are often some of the most difficult and complex cases to make,” said Chris West, Canadian County Sheriff.
Brey was located on Monday at her place of employment, and taken into custody, deputies said. At the time of her arrest, Brey told investigators that she had been a drug user, and stole the money to purchase illegal prescription drugs and opiates.
“Just as Brey admitted to my investigators, drug use is the driving force behind the majority of crimes occurring in our communities,” West said.
Brey was booked into the Canadian County Jail. Her bond was established at $15,000, and she remains in custody.
