Chickasha is hoping someone fills the void that will be left by one of its most giving citizens.
Jay Barnes and his wife have lived in Chickasha for four years. Jay is always helping out in the community and donating his time to good causes.
News 9 first introduced you to the northeast transplant in the spring, when he posted on Facebook that he’d mow the lawns of Chickasha’s elderly for free.

“I just really enjoy doing things to help others,” said Barnes, who has now cut more than 100 lawns.
The mayor of Chickasha donated a lawnmower to Barnes.
“He’s trying to make us better every day and he’s got a giving heart,” said Chickasha Mayor Chris Mosley.
Barnes also regularly donates blood platelets at the Oklahoma Blood Institute. The process can take up to two and half hours each session.
He’s also hosted yard sales to benefit a woman who lost her home to fire and collects cans to benefit the local Boy Scouts.
“I think I’ve been performing service since I was 9 years old,” said Barnes.
Unfortunately for Chickasha, Jay’s wife just got a great job with Google in Boston. The couple moves at the end of the year.
Barnes is already working on a replacement for his lawn care service.
For him, the biggest selling point is what you get when you decide to give each day.
“It just feels good being there for people,” said Barnes.
