A fall down the stairs two years ago led to Cameron Scott's diagnosis with stage 4 brain cancer.

The fall left Cameron with back pain so he went to doctors for an MRI. But the black-and-white film revealed that the superhero-loving son of Tamika and Wendell Scott would need to be braver and fight harder than ever before, his mom told Today in November of 2017.

"The doctor turned to the other doctors and said, 'I need another MRI. I need you to scan upward.'"

Doctors found a brain tumor called medulloblastoma. The high-risk, stage 4 cancer had spread to his spine.

Cameron's father said it was his job to act brave.

"I'm dad, and I have to be strong for everybody. I just felt we're gonna fight," Wendell said.

A four-hour surgery, pioneered treatment

At 53 pounds, Cameron underwent four hours of surgery to remove the tumors. What followed was more treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The Today show interviewed the family in 2017 as part of its series highlighting St. Jude's work.

The hospital prescribed a highly-targeted treatment of Cameron's cancer, using it's own pioneered gene sequencing. The boy underwent six months of chemotherapy and radiation.

St. Jude covered the costs for the family.

A trip to Legoland

The targeted treatment worked and Cameron and his family, which includes five older siblings, enjoyed a trip to Legoland Florida Resort over the Thanksgiving weekend in 2017.

"I feel amazing," Cameron said after the treatment. "I feel like I've been through everything."

While at the amusement park, Cameron got to engage in some superhero play and even wore a Batman costume.

Of all the superheroes, Batman is his favorite, his dad said. Why? Get ready for this:

"His philosophy is, well, all of the other superheroes have super powers, Batman uses his brain."

And now Cameron's brain has been saved and our hearts can't take it! Go save Gotham, Cameron!
