The Texas father accused of trying to run over a security guard outside an elementary school Tuesday has turned himself into authorities.
Steven Delatorre, 42, has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
Deputies with Harris County Pct. 5 said Delatorre went to the Village School in the 12800 block of Whittington Drive in Houston Tuesday to pick up his son, but he had a protective order against him.
When Delatorre was approached by a security guard, a fight reportedly broke out, and the man tried to run the guard over with his car, according to deputies.
Officials said the security guard fired several shots at Delatorre’s car before he took off. It is unknown whether Delatorre was injured.
Deputies said Delatorre’s son was not hurt.
The Village School released the following statement on the incident:
"This afternoon there was an incident outside The Village School concerning an individual who is not legally permitted to enter school grounds. There was an altercation between the individual and our security guard which resulted in the security guard discharging his weapon after he had been struck by the individual’s vehicle. The individual left the area in his vehicle and the security guard is not seriously injured.
"The authorities were alerted immediately and are investigating the situation. All students and staff are safe and well. We will provide updates of further information as and when it is appropriate to do so."
