A metro man is accused of assaulting a homeowner on Monday with an unusual weapon. The victim told Oklahoma City police she had to defend herself from a five-foot piece of rebar.
The victim called 911 to report Jesse Dewberry, 38, was ransacking her home.
Caller: “He’s tore my house completely up.”
Dewberry allegedly broke into the woman’s far Southeast Oklahoma City trailer. She reportedly came home to find her front door wide open. Not knowing who was inside, she grabbed a pistol. Once she recognized Dewberry as the intruder, she tried to make him leave.
“The suspect then picked up a piece of rebar about five-foot long,” said Capt. Bo Mathews, Oklahoma City Police Department. “He started jabbing at her with it like a spear.”
Caller: “He got through my locked door somehow and tried to run a piece of rebar through me. He said he’s already killed some people and he’s going to kill me too.”
The frightened woman went to get help from Dewberry's father, who also lives next door.
The report states Dewberry ran back inside the victim's home and began tearing up everything in her bedroom.
Caller: “Oh my God. He’s, he’s delusional.”
The suspect's father said Dewberry has mental health issues and was likely high on meth during the assault.
“Police were able to take this individual into custody,” said Capt. Mathews. “He was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on a count of ADW, also burglary and also destruction of property.”
The victim was not injured by the rebar. When police asked Dewberry why he was inside the home, he told officers he was getting a Dr. Pepper.
