A burglary suspect fell into a ravine Tuesday morning, while allegedly running from Oklahoma City police officers.
Neighbor Jack Smith lives in front of the ravine, right in the spot where the man fell in. Smith said he’s used to seeing strange things happen there.
“This is the south side of town and for some reason, people think this is an escape, that this is a back road, but it is not,” Smith said.
In fact, the drop from the hill to the ravine is significant.
“A couple firefighters got on a gurney, went down there, I’m watching through my window, they came up, body was on it,” Smith said.
The entire situation began when two people allegedly broke into the Taste of China restaurant in Southwest Oklahoma City.
When police arrived, they found a broken window at the restaurant and two suspects leaving in a red sports car.
Police began following the suspects, and at one point, an officer jumped into the suspects’ car to avoid getting run over.
The pursuit then ended in a residential area, but one suspect allegedly jumped out of the car at a dead end, ran and fell into the ravine.
He had to be carefully lifted out of the ditch by firefighters and was rushed to the hospital.
No officers were injured, and the second suspect was arrested, but investigators said the first suspect’s injuries were severe.
