Piedmont City Council Raises Road Fee As Part Of 2-Year Road Repair Plan

The city of Piedmont approved a road maintenance hike Monday night to help improve several roadways throughout the city. This will increase 2,500 residents within the city. The $10 monthly fee generated 300,000 a year for road maintenance.

The new $38 fee would generate over $1 million and $840,000 for the road construction. They're hoping to do 2 miles per year.

“We need the money. We do not have funds available to fix these roads without this fee,” said Piedmont City Council Member Kevan Blasdel.

Brittany Anderson is one resident who is upset about this raise. She believes the hike in monthly payments is too much for her community and people should have gotten better notice.

“To leave it up to five city councilmen to vote to increase our bill by $30 a month is asinine,” said Brittany Anderson, a resident of Piedmont.

“The way it is right now, it's dangerous, and somebody could get killed out there,” said Blasdel.

The Mayor of Piedmont, Kurt Mayabb, addressed the issue in a statement:

“As the Mayor, I am asking the citizens to give us a chance for the next two years to pave the roads for the future. We have had bad roads for years and I think this is going to be a great move forward, “said Mayabb.

The city council said this increase will take effect March 1.
