I wonder how many Oklahomans tuned into the governor's State of the State Address Monday because they expected something different.
And they got it. Governor Stitt spoke to the legislature and Oklahomans with unbridled enthusiasm from the get go.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you! Man, I am just overwhelmed with emotion and joy. It's just unbelievable walking in here as governor. I wish y'all could experience this. Nah, it's crazy!"
Governor Stitt, hasn't fought the battles in the legislature, or anywhere as an office holder. He's a blank slate, a political newcomer holding the most powerful position in the state.
And he challenged legislators to re-imagine Oklahoma government.
He spoke like a businessman, referring to us taxpayers as customers.
He asked lawmakers to give him more authority to hire and fire agency heads.
To put all of the state's spending, its “checkbook" as he put it, online for all Oklahomans to see.
To save more money for a rainy day.
Governor Stitt challenged lawmakers to make our teachers, on average, the highest paid in the region.
And then, he finished off his State of the State with a fist pump.
"Our vision is to make Oklahoma Top 10. Join me as we work together, we will move our whole state forward. God bless you, and God bless the state of Oklahoma."
It's going to be interesting to watch folks.
