Edmond School officials announced their plan to make up instructional days lost during the 9-day-long statewide teacher walkout.

The school board voted to change the last day of school from Wednesday, May 23 to Friday, May 25. The plan also changed the April 27 non-instructional day to an instructional day.

“We do not want our families to experience financial or family hardships by the changes to the calendar,” said Superintendent Bret Towne. “We will make every effort to accommodate families that have nonrefundable travel tickets or have students already registered for camps and activities that are scheduled to begin as early as our original first day out of school.”

The approved plan will allow the district to meet the 1080 hours of instruction required by state law.

According to the release, high school students will take their final exams on Wednesday, May 23 and Thursday, May 24 and turn in their district-issued Chromebooks on Friday, May 25.

The walkout began on April 2 and ended on April 12.

The calendar change will not affect graduation, which is scheduled for May 12 at the Cox Convention Center, school officials say.
