Robots Assist OU Researchers With Coronavirus (COVID-19) Testing

Researchers at the University of Oklahoma are using new technology to help process COVID-19 tests.

OU says robots will be used to extract the viral genetic material needed for COVID-19 testing.

These liquid-handling robots will assist researchers and graduate students at OU with support from Norman-based company IMMY.

OU says through the help of these robots, they will be able to conduct hundreds of test per hour.

The most common way to test for COVID-19 is through a deep nasal swab, that's where robots will get the genetic material they need to determine a diagnosis.

Medical diagnostic manufacture IMMY is also developing a new antibody blood test that would show if someone has already been exposed to the virus.

The company says they're hoping to roll out that test this week.
