Will Rogers World Airport Releases Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
Officials at Will Rogers World Airport are asking people to only fly if it’s essential. If you can rebook your flight plans to do so to prevent the spread of COVID-19. With people flying in and out from all over the country, Will Rogers decided to take action to try and prevent unnecessary travel. They’re recommending people not fly unless it’s urgent.
“As we try to control this virus that we don’t need to be traveling to places and exposing ourselves, exposing other people if it’s not necessary,” said Karen Carney with Will Rogers World Airport.
Karen Carney, a spokesperson with the airport, said flights are still available for people who must travel for business or to get home, but that many flights are expected to be reduced or canceled, so it’s important to check your flight status on a day-by-day basis.
“People that have a plane ticket for those kind of reasons if the plane is operational, the flight if operational, than they can still travel,” said Carney.
Most flights are being canceled due to low passenger numbers. Some airlines, like Allegiant have already suspended all service through the rest of March. Carney said if you have to travel, you should stick to social distancing and be aware of your surroundings.
“Again, it goes back to using common sense you know if you’re going, using non-discretionary travel,” said Carney.
There will also be updates to other parts of the airport due to less overall traffic during this pandemic.
“We’ve closed one of our parking lots to kind of help facilitate to lower staffing in our parking,” said Carney.
