Local Coffee Shop Says ‘Pay What You Can’ During Coronavirus Pandemic
Ellis Island Coffee and Wine Bar in Edmond has put a “pay what you can” policy in place in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Since many businesses are shutdown, the local shop was looking for ways to help boost morale in the city.
“We want people to know that we are here for them,” said Murod Mamatov, the owner of Ellis Island.
So, they put in new measures to keep their customers safe.
“They can’t come into the shop and we have trained our baristas to handle drinks with gloves on and change them each time,” said Mamatov.
People in the community have showed up day in and day out. Mamatov said despite telling people they don’t need to pay many have donated.
In the end, Mamatov said he hopes this gesture reminds people that we will get through this together.
Ellis Island is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., you can call ahead or order when you get there.
