Edmond Man To Stand Trial For Parents' Murders, Prosecutors Add New Charge
An Edmond man accused of killing his parents in their home in March 2019 will go to trial.
However, 20-year-old Elijah Walker’s family did not agree with the judge’s decision on Friday. The Oklahoma County judge bound Walker over for trial after hearing testimony from three witnesses and receiving the autopsy reports for 50-year-old Michael Walker and 44-year-old Rachel Walker.
Walker's attorney will file a not guilty plea for reason of mental illness.
It has been almost a year since Edmond police were called to the Walker’s home near Covell Road and Bryant Avenue.
Their son is accused of shooting them multiple times.
The suspect’s younger brother Isaiah Walker, 18, witnessed his parent's deaths. He told the court what he remembered about the morning.
Isaiah Walker testified that he woke up to gunshots and screaming. His mother told him to call the police.
Isaiah Walker said his brother confessed to killing their parents because they were sending him telepathic messages and worshiping Satan.
“He is mentally ill and my brother is inflicted with schizophrenia,” said Ashton West, Walker’s sister. “He has been suffering for years. He suffers from delusions that caused him to commit this act.”
Walker was originally found incompetent but a judge later ruled he is competent to stand trial after receiving medication and treatment.
“It is our hope that further evaluations are undertaken,” West said. “The District Attorney’s Office will take that information into consideration and stop their efforts to punish my brother for an act that he was not in control of.”
Prosecutors charged Walker with two counts of first-degree murder and recently added a third charge for having explosive devices.
An Edmond police bomb technician testified in court that four homemade devices were found in Walker's closet during the murder investigation.
Walker's attorney argued against the new charge and he said the explosives were not used in the murders.
Walker's next court appearance is set for April 1.
