After starting four straight years at Oklahoma State as a deep snapper, Zach Allen has made a name for himself in the coaching profession.

For the past nine years he has coached at NEO in Miami, Oklahoma.  The past two years he has been the head coach and put the Golden Norseman back in the national spotlight.

In his near decade with the program Allen has coached almost every position from run game coordinator, defensive coordinator, special teams coordinator and offensive line, to name a few.

It's pretty crazy to think it all started living in the dorm room to now leading NEO as the head coach.

“Every once in a while I get the opportunity to take a step back and see the whole perspective of things. I’m lucky to have a coaching staff that allows me to do that,” said Allen.

Five other coaches that coached above him have moved on since he joined the program in 2009.  This past year with the help of Allen the sophomore class had the most wins in nearly 20 years of Golden Norsemen football.

“There are quite a few guys that are now hungry and understanding what it takes to get there knowing we have to take the next step,” said Allen.

Only time will tell how far NEO will go this season but as long as Allen is at the helm the success will hopefully keep rolling in Miami.  Allen also knows if the wins keep coming that one day, he will possibly be getting a phone call to move up the coaching ladder.

“I would be lying to you If I said that wasn’t a motivating factor for me every day, one of these days if I get the chance to take care of my family just like anybody, I’m going to jump at it,” said Allen.

The Golden Norseman are less than two weeks away from their home opener against Arkansas Baptist on August 29 at Red Robertson Field.
