My 2 Cents: The Oklahoma City Council To Look At MAPS 4 Projects
The city council is expected to vote to schedule four meetings in July and August to hear presentations on potential MAPS 4 projects Tuesday.
So far City voters have passed every single MAPS plan presented to them, but they've all included some big exciting projects that capture the public's imagination. The canal, the river rapids, arena, ballpark, streetcars, and a central park.
The owners of the Energy Soccer Team have presented that kind of idea, a soccer stadium complex just south of Bricktown, but it would include restaurants and retail. Almost a soccer community.
It will be presented to the mayor and council to consider.
I've been looking at some of the other projects the mayor and council will consider at these meetings over the next 6 weeks and I don't see those eye-popping ideas, in fact some of the ideas I think should be funded through regular channels.
Homelessness, domestic abuse, the animal shelter, transit, and mental health.
These are all critical issues but is the MAPS label enough to carry a sales tax increase across the finish line without any attention grabbing, shiny projects people can gawk at?
