An Oklahoma man is left with a lifetime of scars after being attacked with a machete. The victim’s stepfather attacked him last October, nearly killing him.

John Logan, 47, remains in the Pottawatomie County jail on a $250,000 bond. He recently pleaded not guilty to the machete attack.

Healing has been slow for 21-year-old Patrick O'Ryan. He received multiple slashes from the machete attack, including one that caused a traumatic brain injury.

He lives with his mother in Prague and remains under her care.

“He has to be frequently redirected, and kind of just reminded to do like the basic things,” said Mary Logan, the victim’s mother.

She said her son is also dealing with scars you cannot see. He has been in and out of the hospital since the attack for PTSD and depression.

Logan said her estranged husband meant to kill her and her two sons when he came to their Prague home allegedly drunk.

“When he entered the house and stated I’m here to kill you,” said Logan. “And made statements prior which is listed in the VPO that he would attack us with machetes and kill us.”

John Logan went on the run after the assault and was arrested near Prague after a 24-hour manhunt. He even made a Facebook post about authorities searching for him.

His estranged wife fears the new Pottawatomie County district attorney will soon amend Logan's charges because he did not use a gun.

Logan is currently charged with two counts of domestic assault and battery with a deadly weapon.

“The current DA in office is saying that it was filed incorrectly, so they’re wanting to lower the charge to assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Right now, they’re offering him 20 with minimal serve time. Which means he could get out as minimal as three years,” said Mary Logan.

The Pottawatomie County DA’s office, as of Friday, did not returned calls to confirm if the charges will be amended.
