ICE Confirms Man Charged In Fatal OKC Hit-And-Run In Country Illegally

ICE officials confirm a man, accused of fatally running over a woman last month, is in the country illegally.  

Following Tamara Paulson's death, a neo Nazi group erected a sign reading “Build the Wall” next to her roadside memorial.

“She was kind-hearted, she would do anything for you,” said friend Mary Tyler.

Tamara Paulson was well-known to the area of Southwest 38th Street and Pennsylvania and recognized as a woman of habit.

“She came in every morning a six o’clock, and then she’d walk across the street to the bus stop to go to work,” said Tyler.

Police say that's exactly what Paulson was doing when Luis Soltero struck her with his pickup and left.

It’s sad to think someone could hit somebody and keep going and leave them there to die,” said friend Teresea Esquivias.

Sixteen hours after her death, a tip led police to Soltero's home. He lived just half a mile from where Paulson was killed.

Then, following his arrest, next to her memorial a sign was erected reading, "Tamara Paulson OKC Resident, Killed Here by: Luis Soltero Illegal Alien, Build the Wall."

According to ICE officials, Soltero is from Mexico.

He's currently booked into the Oklahoma County jail, charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident, and driving without a license.

ICE has requested that Soltero be held on a detainer, meaning if charges are dropped ICE would be notified prior to his release.  ICE would then decide whether or not to take him into federal custody to be deported.

Soltero is being held on a $25,000 bond. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
