My 2 Cents: The 'Green New Deal' Focuses On Climate Change
While they're arguing about protecting the border in El Paso, Democratic newcomer Congress member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wants us focused on saving the planet from climate change.
She's comparing her "Green New Deal" to this generation's moon shot or Civil Rights Movement.
She's introduced a resolution calling for a 10-year American mobilization committed to radically transforming the way we live in America, including eliminating the use of any fuel that creates green-house gases.
That means cars, all electric, airplanes she suggests could be replaced by electric high-speed rail, coal powered power plants not a chance.
No nuclear plants either.
She believes EVERY building in America should be retrofitted to make them more energy efficient.
By the way, do you know how many jobs that would cost Oklahoma that are created by our oil and gas industry?
One out of every five or 424,000, according to the state chamber.
Ocasio-Cortez has a plan for that too, the federal government would guarantee everyone a good paying job, with health benefits, paid vacations and retirement.
It's just a resolution at this point, but don't be surprised if the handful of supporters it already has start introducing legislation to make these changes.
