Quick Apple Dumplings

  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts
  • 2 Granny Smith apples
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoon unsalted butter, cold
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoon chopped
  • nuts
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup apple juice or apple cider
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Cut each apple in half.
  3. Remove the core and stem.
  4. In a small bowl, using a pastry blender or with your clean hands, mix together the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and butter till crumbles form.
  5. Mix in the nuts.

To make the dumplings:

  1. Cut each pie crust in half.
  2. Put a half an apple in the center of the crust cut side up and place a heaping spoonful of the crumble mixture on top.
  3. Fold the the sides of the dough over the apple and seal all edges.
  4. Place the apple dumpling seam side down in a pie pan.
  5. Continue with the other halves.
  6. Brush the dumplings with beaten egg.
  7. Add any extra cinnamon sugar mixture to the bottom of the pan.
  8. Add apple cider to the bottom of the pan only.
  9. Bake for 45-60 minutes or until apples dumplings are golden brown.
  10. Use the syrup the forms on the bottom of the pan to drizzle over cooked dumplings.
