The mother of a toddler found wandering in a Midwest City neighborhood has been located. The child was found at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 5, at the intersection of Melody and Lyric Lane.

A woman driving through the neighborhood came across the one-year-old wandering the streets and called 911.

911 Caller: “I found a baby wandering the street. I don’t know where he belongs, he don’t have a diaper on so I know it’s a boy.”

Another Good Samaritan also noticed the child and stopped to help.

“We put a diaper on him,” said Linda Shadrick, witness. “Cleaned him up, gave him water and crackers and he just ate the cracker and sat on my lap.”

Linda held the child until police arrived.

“He let me love him,” said Shadrick. “Let me cuddle. He was not scared, he was very loveable.”

The toddler was taken by police and checked by doctors. Officers canvassed the neighborhood and sent an alert to hundreds of Midwest City residents in an attempt to find the toddler's family.

Nearly three hours after finding the child, the mother came forward asking about her son. The visibly shaken mother told police she was homeless. She and her children had been living in a shed behind a home near where the little boy was found.

“What she’s told us at this point is they were asleep,” said Chief Brandon Clabes, Midwest City Police Department. “Had breakfast, fell asleep and when she woke up the one-year-old was missing.”

Police took the mother and her 5-year-old daughter. They are now determining if the mother will face criminal charges.

“We hope, maybe we can provide some additional services for the mom when this is all vetted out,” said Clabes. “And we figure out where we are going to go with this as far as criminal charges.”

The other child is also in DHS custody.
