PUTNAM CITY, Oklahoma - A Putnam City West High School employee is on administrative leave and four students are being investigated for assaulting another student.

The district says the alleged assault happened Friday afternoon and released the following statement:

Putnam City district administrators and Putnam City Campus Police officers are investigating an assault on a student at Putnam City West by four other students on the afternoon of Friday, Sept. 28. Student safety is the district’s highest priority. Administrators have moved quickly in the investigation and have placed one employee on administrative leave. Behavior of students involved in the assault has been addressed by the school and police are investigating the possibility of criminal charges.

 The district is limited in what it can say due to the ongoing investigation and federal privacy laws concerning student information. Additional information will be made available when possible.

“A lot of people are talking about it, there’s rumors,” said one student who asked not to be identified.

The student told News 9 that police were outside the school on Tuesday.

The district says the behavior of the students involved has been addressed and police are investigating the possibility of criminal charges. 

The student News 9 talked to says the students involved appeared to have a bright future ahead of them.

“Threw it all away for a stupid joke.”
