State and federal authorities are trying to find out the source of a deadly prescription counterfeit drug, responsible for a death and a hospitalization in recent weeks, according to the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics.

Evidence collected by the OBN suggests that the victims bought what they thought was Oxycodone. However, instead, it tested positive for Fentanyl, which is a synthetic often sold as a cheap counterfeit.

"These counterfeit pills have been pressed into the same shape, with the same color and brand markings as legitimate pharmaceutical Oxycodone, so it's almost impossible to tell the difference out on the streets," said OBN spokesman Mark Woodward.

The overdose survivor was saved by Narcan, a drug that can reverse an opioid overdose.

Anybody with information that could help investigators identify the source of the pills should call 1-800-522-8031.

Callers can remain anonymous.
