Payne County Woman Steals Almost $200,000 From Boss, DA Says
STILLWATER - The Payne County District Attorney has charged a 62-year old woman, after a nearly yearlong OSBI investigation.
Agents said Donna Stanford stole from her employer, WheelDock Company, LLC over the span of five years.
Court documents reveal Stanford was the company’s bookkeeper.
She’s accused of embezzling just under $200,000 by duplicating company credit cards, writing checks to a family member, as well as other methods.
Stanford was hired in 2011. The crimes allegedly happened between 2012 and 2017.
The owner says Stanford was fired from the company in September 2017 for unrelated matters. He started taking a look at the books himself, and discovered the discrepancies.
“She has been charged in Payne County with three counts of embezzlement,” said Jordan Solorzano, OSBI Spokeswoman.
Stanford’s son, James Richard Roberts Jr., also worked for the company, and has since been charged with a misdemeanor relating to the crime according to the owner of WheelDock.
James Roberts Jr.’s signature can be found on some of the evidence, and court documents state he had cashed some of the checks for his mother.
The same probable cause affidavit said Stanford told investigators "she would take responsibility and not to blame her children."
Credit card charges were traced to a liquor store, hotels, Walmart, vet bills, municipal court and Credit Bureau Services of Stillwater.
If convicted, Stanford could face up to 30 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.
