One mid-January afternoon, 11-year-old Anna Davis was involved in an accident in front of her Stillwater home.

Her parents say Anna was playing in the driveway with her siblings when her skateboard rolled into the street.

Anna was hit by a vehicle, and while the driver quickly pulled over to help, Anna was taken to the hospital, where she passed away in a matter of hours.

“You don't think to have the conversation with your 11-year-old...Would you like to be an organ donor?” said Anna’s mother, Bethany Diaz. “It was a very difficult decision to donate her corneas and her heart valves, but I am glad we did.”

Anna died before finishing 5th grade, after the funeral her family found a note on their door. It was from the young girl’s school teacher.

The class had filled out individual surveys, with the intention of placing them in a class time capsule.

One question students answered, “If you had $100 to spend, what would you buy?” Anna’s response, “clothes for the homeless.”

Anna would have turned 12 on September 26.

Her family says they want to grant her one of her final wishes.

“We can collect donations. We can distribute them around Christmas, when people really need them,” Diaz said.

They are hoping to collect clothes ranging from toddler sizes all the way up to XXXL, including socks and undergarments to help the homeless.

Clothing will be distributed first to local shelters and other facilities around Stillwater and depending on the success possibly across the state.

Anna’s clothes still hang in her closet and will be some of the first items donated.

“I think she would really...She would really appreciate it,” said Diaz. “It's something, Anna would be smiling down on us for doing.”

Diaz asks that those providing items, contact her through Facebook.

You can also donate money to the project here.

The family is hoping to make the clothing drive a regular event.

The 6th graders at Richmond Elementary School will be wearing green, Anna’s favorite color, on her upcoming birthday to show their support.
