Tuesday is the primary runoff election in Oklahoma and the day we find out which Republican candidate will be running for governor; Tulsa Businessman Kevin Stitt or former Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett.

As of Monday, August 27, roughly 43,000 Oklahomans have cast early votes. Candidates are hoping those numbers go way up Tuesday.

Mick Cornett made a campaign stop at Chappell Supply and Equipment in Oklahoma City, talking with employees who make pressure washers. And he pressured them to get out and vote Tuesday.

"I think that is going to be critical. I think the winner will be determined by who does the best job of getting their supporters to the polls,” said Cornett.

Elections officials expect a pretty good turnout although, "They are not at the same level that we saw at the June 26th primary. But runoff primaries rarely have the same level of turnout as a regular primary. Plus, I think, let’s be honest, the state question drove quite a bit of the turnout,” said Paul Ziriax of the OK State Elections Board.

That state question legalized medical marijuana, a big draw for voters. Still, it’s a rare occurrence where you have three recognized political parties that all have statewide runoff primaries.

Cornett said he's been campaigning very hard over the past weekend. He said he logged about 700 miles campaigning up in the panhandle.

News 9 and News On 6 will feature stories on the Stitt and Cornett campaigns leading up to the runoff election on August 28, 2018.
