A Tulsa County jury has found Deonte Green competent to stand trial.

The 17-year-old is charged with a string of robberies, the rape of an elderly woman and the murder of Shane Anderson, a Broken Arrow school teacher last fall.

The jury deliberated for about an hour Friday night and came back saying based on the testimony they heard in the past two days that Green is competent to stand trial.

In the past few days, the jury heard from several homicide investigators and psychologists regarding Green's competency and his actions after he was arrested.

In closing arguments, Green's attorneys argued that Green has an IQ of 59 and was tested twice by two different psychologists. The judge read to the jury that the IQ to determine mental retardation is 70.

The State argues that Green understands the seriousness of the crimes and that he knows what's going on, he just won't admit it to doctors. The State told the jury this case isn't a "math problem" and it's not as simple as what Deonte Green's IQ is but it's whether or not he understands what he did.

"I just wanted to make the point that legally that's not the test that it's not just a sub 70 IQ. That its understands and appreciates the charges and help his counsel in his own defense," said Assistant District Attorney Kevin Gray.

Deonte Green's next court hearing is Monday at 1:30. Assistant DA Gray says he expects this case to go to trial next spring.

The next court date has been set for August 20.
