Tulsa Police are looking for a driver who they say hit a jogger along Peoria and then left him lying there injured.

The images are grainy, but surveillance cameras were rolling the moment a car stops to seemingly help a jogger hit near 39th and Peoria.

The driver of the vehicle that actually hit the man took off from the scene.

“Some people internally believe I just hit somebody I’m going to go to jail or get a ticket,” said Sergeant Shane Tuell. “Failing to stop and check their wellbeing is a crime.”

Police said the jogger, who is expected to make a full recovery, was hit just after 6 a.m. Tuesday morning by a driver who was traveling north on Peoria.

“Why did they leave? Because driver’s license? Insurance? Were they intoxicated? We don't know,” Tuell said.

Sergeant Shane Tuell said investigators did find a car mirror in the parking lot of the Coney Islander with a serial number that tracked back to a maroon-colored Toyota Matrix.

And while surveillance video of the area was found, it didn’t show what police need, but they have faith that somewhere another camera must have caught something.

“So, if you think you're going to pull off your criminal activity with anonymity you're wrong,” Tuell said.

Police want everyone to keep in mind just how important it is to pay attention, especially in that part of town as joggers and cyclists use Peoria as a detour from Riverside.

“Just know you're probably going to encounter a jogger or bicyclist and you probably wouldn't see this high of a number once we open riverside back up very soon,” Tuell said.
