Police: Person Barricades Self In SW OKC Home

A man barricaded himself in a southwest Oklahoma City home, police said Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters were called about 6:20 a.m. to a home in the 2800 block of Texoma Drive near SW 44 and May Avenue and battled a house fire. 

Fire officials determined the fire was suspicious and reported multiple points of origin in the vacant home.

A neighbor called authorities later and said a man was back at the home. 

About 10:50 a.m., fire investigators went to the home to question the man. The man was seen but refused to speak with investigators and went inside the home.

Family members went inside the home and said the man appeared to be unconscious in a three-foot diameter tunnel that went straight down six feet and angled into another direction.

Fire investigators said they smelled an odor of gasoline during this time.

Oklahoma City police, firefighters and haz-mat personnel were at the scene due to a strong odor emitting from the home.

Monitors showed a dangerous level of an unknown substance was inside the home and authorities forced fresh air into the home.

The man was pulled from the home after crews were cleared to go inside. He was taken to a local hospital. 

Police said the bomb squad was en route to the home after a suspicious device was found.
