MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma - A Mid-Del teacher received quite the surprise just before Christmas after winning $5,000 courtesy of Air Comfort Solutions and News 9.

A packed auditorium at Midwest City High School saw Stephanie Gragg become the first recipient of the Air Comfort Solutions Teacher Appreciation Award, which goes to a very deserving educator each month through the 2017-18 school year.

Former OU All-American quarterback and Heisman winner Jason White was on hand as a representative for Air Comfort Solutions to present Gragg with her check.

Mrs. Gragg was nominated by one of her students, senior Jalen Redmond, who was also on hand to help surprise Gragg with the honor.

“This year she (Gragg) has a new job as an instructional coach, but took on a class of one, me,” Redmond explained in his nomination form. “I am taking an online English course with her so I can go to Norman (University of Oklahoma) in January. Mrs. Gragg does not really care about football. She knows that as the son of a single mom, my one chance to go to college was through “sportsball” as she calls it.”

Redmond went on to explain that Gragg is there for all her students and that she has formed a lasting bond with many of them. He says he’s definitely not the only one who wanted her to win.

Mrs. Gragg was well aware of the Air Comfort Solutions Teacher Appreciation Award, because she actually nominated her husband and fellow teacher for the award. She says she thought she was at the assembly to watch him win the award.

Mr’s Gragg says one of the first things she’s going to buy with her award money is a new Roomba for her classroom!

So far, News 9 has already received nearly 800 entries for the Air Comfort Solutions Teacher Appreciation Award. If you would like to nominate your favorite educator, go to news9.com/teacher.
